The Bottomless Pit on 9/28

Published

I hope you’ll tune in this Saturday for what will mostly be a Book Club Edition of the Bottomless Pit, and the book in question is “Peppermint Twist: The Mob, The Music, and The Most Famous Dance Club of The ’60s”, by John Johnson Jr. and Joel Selvin, with Dick Cami. This book is hard-hitting and action-packed. It also Rocks, kicks ass, and is fun to read. Musically, we’ll hear lots of great Twist-Era R&R by Gary U.S. Bonds, Rod McKuen, King Curtis, Johnny Hallyday, Mina, and more.
Elsewhere on the show I’ll have a re-cap of my trip to the Detroit Jazz Festival, with music by Karriem Riggins, Gaye Lynn McKinney, and Bill Frisell. AND there’ll be some new music by the great Valerie June.
All that and more, on Saturday 9/28/13, 10 PM EST, on WFUV.

It dawned on me recently that many MANY of my favorite musical artistes share a common first name, or a common nickname. So this Saturday night it’ll be an All Hank Edition of the Bottomless Pit. Tune in and enjoy the artistry of Mssrs. Snow, Williams, Thompson, Ballard, Marvin, Garland, Jones, Mobley, and Crawford. That’s this Saturday night, 10 PM EST, on WFUV.

Most of tomorrow night’s Bottomless Pit features a tribute to the great humorist, recording artist, and all-around Renaissance Man, Stan Freberg. Super-creative on so many fronts, and smarter and funnier than most, he, along with Mad magazine, Rocky and Bullwinkle, et. al., did a lot that helped to shape my worldview, warp my young mind, etc…
There’ll be all of that and much more on the Bottomless Pit, Saturdays at 10 PM EST, on WFUV
