I hope you’ll join me for this week’s Bottomless Pit.
We’ll hear from Merle Haggard, Prince, and Lonnie Mack.
That’s this Saturday at 10 PM EDT on WFUV (wfuv.org).
I wanted to do an all-new Bottomless Pit this week, but I came home from my road trip with a miserable head cold; when I open my mouth all I can do is cough, croak, etc.
So this week’s show is a rerun, from Nov. 1, 2014. Here’s what I had to say about it at the time:
<<Please join me for this week’s The Bottomless Pit with Marshall Crenshaw, which is basically about 2 people, both favorite recording artists of mine, Bill Frisell, and Joe Meek. I’ll have 3 more tracks (the maximum allowed by Law) from Bill’s great new album, “Guitar In the Space Age”.
Then we’ll hear a bunch of stuff that was filtered through the brilliant and deranged mind of legendary record producer and murderer Joe Meek. The building in London where he “Lived, Worked, and Died” is a National Historic Site!…
That’s the Bottomless Pit, Saturdays at 10 PM EST on WFUV Public Radio (wfuv.org)>>
On last week’s Bottomless Pit I had some programming help from my iPhone/iPod on “shuffle”. This week I get some help from David Bowie, from beyond the grave!! Back in Nov. 2003 he wrote an article for Vanity Fair that I loved, called “Confessions Of a Vinyl Junkie”, and I built all of this week’s show around it. The article surfaced again in the wake of his passing. In it he lists 25 random favorite albums of his (only 5 of which I owned myself). It’s just a beautiful, eclectic list that he came up with, and reading what he had to say about the albums made me want to check out each one, which I did..
So join me in enjoying the sounds of Steve Reich, Little Richard, Florence Foster Jenkins, Tom Dissevelt, Toots and The Maytals, and many more.
That’s the Bottomless Pit, Saturday night at 10 EDT on WFUV (wfuv.org)..
